Martin Andersen to lead Team Engstler challenge
Team Engstler has confirmed that Martin Andersen will lead the team into the 2022 TCR Germany season after the Dane re-signed for a second year.
Andersen joined the team last year on the back of a successful programme in TCR Denmark, where he took second in the standings back in 2020.
Running alongside Luca Engstler in one of the team’s three full-season entries, Andersen grabbed a race win during the season finale at the Nürburgring to finish second in the standings behind his team-mate.
With Engstler having now inked a deal with Audi that will see him to a GT3 programme for 2022, Andersen will step up into the position of team leader with his goal being to try and push for the title in the team’s first campaign with the Honda Civic Type R.
“My goal is clear, I finished last year as vice champion and the aim is to make the top step of the podium and go for the championship!” he said. “I expect a tough and close fight all year long, and with the new Honda, we have to find the speed quickly.
“But everyone in the team is ready for the challenge and looking forward to a great season. I can’t wait to get started!”
Szymon Ładniak – who raced no fewer than three different models of car last year with multiple teams – will look for more consistency as he joins the team for his second full season in the series, with veteran Roland Hertner completing the line-up having previously competed in Engstler colours in TCR Asia.
