Martin Andersen claims Nürbugring pole position

Team Engstler’s Martin Andersen scored the pole position in Saturday’s qualifying session at the Nürburgring, driving a Honda Civic Type R TCR.

Sunny skies and warm temperatures welcomed the 13-car TCR Germany field at the Nürburgring, with the session running incident-free.

Andersen set a best lap time of 1:32.958, 0.345 seconds ahead of team-mate Szymon Ladniak, also at the wheel of a Honda.

Jonas Karklys qualified in third place with a Hyundai i30 N TCR from Nordpass, 0.383 seconds off the pace, followed by Jessica Bäckman of Roja Motorsport.

Rene Kircher was fifth with a Hyundai i30 N TCR, followed by Vincent Radermecker, driving a Holden Astra TCR from Maurer Motorsport, 1.081 seconds off the pace.

Patrick Sing qualified in seventh place, followed by Marco Butti with the first of the Audi RS 3 LMS of Elite Motorsport.

Robin Jahr was ninth, driving the second Veloster, 1.276 seconds off the pace, with Max Gruhn completing the top ten for Gruhn Stahlbau Racing, 1.5 seconds behind Andersen.

After the qualifying session Andersen leads the championship with 174 points, with Bäckman 13 points behind, and Ladniak in third, 29 points adrift.

The TCR Germany field returns to the track at 16:50 CEST for Race 1.
