Jessica Bäckman claims Race 2 pole position in the wet at the Lausitzring

ROJA Motorsport’s Jessica Bäckman (Hyundai Veloster N TCR) was the fastest driver in wet conditions at the Lausitzring on Saturday morning to score pole position for Sunday’s second race.

Incessant rain welcomed the TCR Germany field at the circuit, with the qualifying session, which would run incident-free despite the conditions.

Team Engstler’s Martin Andersen and Bäckman continued their feud for top spot, with the Swedish driver setting a fastest lap of 1:40.974, beating the Honda driver by 0.133 seconds.

Szymon Ladniak, with the second Honda Civic Type R TCR from Team Engstler, qualified in third place, 0.267 seconds off the pace, followed by Jonas Karlklys, driving a Hyundai i30 N TCR, already 1.3 seconds behind Bäckman.

René Kircher was fifth driving a Hyundai from ROJA Motorsport, followed by Roland Hertner, at the wheel of a Honda Civic Type R TCR.

Robin Jahr qualified in seventh place driving the second Veloster from ROJA Motorsport, 2.2 seconds behind his team-mate, with Patrick Sing, at the wheel of a Hyundai i30 N TCR right behind.

Vincent Radermecker could only manage to qualify in ninth place with the Holden Astra TCR, ahead of Max Gruhn (Audi RS 3 LMS). Michael Maurer, driving the second Astra, closed the classification in eleventh place.

After the qualifying session for Race 2 at the Lausitzring, Andersen leads the championship with 252 points, 29 ahead of Bäckman.

The TCR Germany field returns to the track at 16:55 CEST for Race 1.
