Robert Dahlgren beats Andreas Bäckman to victory in Gelleråsen finale
Robert Dahlgren won the final race of the STCC TCR Scandinavia weekend at Gelleråsen ahead of Lestrup Racing Team driver Andreas Bäckman.
The PWR Racing driver was handed the reversed grid pole position following a jump start penalty in Race 2 and made a perfect start to head the last race from lights to flag.
Independent Honda driver Didrik Esbjug started second but was passed by a fast-starting Bäckman before the end of the first lap.
Christian Skaar spun on cold tyres on the opening lap and was able to rejoin the field last.
Brink Motorsport driver Tobias Brink was on the move early on in the race, making his way past Dennis Strandberg and Esbjug on lap two and three.
A tough fight developed for fourth position between Esbjug, Race 2 winner Mattias Andersson and Race 1 winner Oliver Söderström who charged up through the field from the back of the grid.
Volkswagen driver Strandberg was right in the thick of the action initially, but had to retire from fifth position due to a technical issue on lap nine.
There was contact between Audi driver Hugo Nerman, Cupra driver Axel Bengtsson and Volkswagen driver Marius Solberg Hansen which resulted in a brief gravel visit for Nerman who dropped down to finish ninth.
Esbjug meanwhile defended hard and managed to cling on to fourth position and his so far best STCC result ahead of Andersson and Söderström.
Dahlgren won the race by two seconds ahead of Bäckman and six seconds ahead of Brink to extend his points lead. The Cupra driver leads the championship on 185 points, 47 more than Andersson and 48 more than Söderström and Brink who share third place overall.
The next STCC TCR Scandinavia race takes place at Anderstorp on September 10-11.
