Robert Dahlgren extends lead despite mixed weekend

Robert Dahlgren managed to extend his STCC TCR Scandinavia lead despite a mixed weekend at Gelleråsen Arena.

The PWR Racing driver was hit with a jump start penalty in the second race which saw him losing a podium finish. The penalty did however mean that he got the Race 3 reversed grid pole, which he converted into a strong victory.

“While the second race was a disappointment, the win in race three was really good. The team gave me an awesome car and I’m really happy that we managed to extend our lead despite the issues we had,” said Robert Dahlgren.

Oliver Söderström looked set to make a serious dent in Dahlgren’s lead after a strong win in the first race and a strong grid position for the second race.

But Christian Skaar eliminated Söderström at Turn 1 of Race 2, meaning zero points and starting from the back of the Race 3 grid. The Lestrup Racing Team driver fought back to finish sixth but has fallen down to a shared third place overall.

“I’m stoked to get my first pole and win of 2022, a huge thanks to the team. The incident in Race 2 was just idiotic and something I’m really disappointed over. The charge back up in the third race was somewhat of a revenge, but we lost valuable points. But with that said, I haven’t given up at all and will fight until the very last race,” said Oliver Söderström.

Dahlgren heads the standings by 47 points ahead of the final two race weekends, while it’s really close for second, third, fourth and fifth position.

A mere three points separates Mattias Andersson, Söderström, Tobias Brink and Andreas Bäckman ahead of the penultimate round at Anderstorp on September 10-11.
