Mikel Azcona leads first FIA TCR World Tour practice of 2026 at Misano

Hyundai driver Mikel Azcona headed the first FIA TCR World Tour practice session of the 2026 at Misano in Italy, beating Honda driver Ruben Volt by just 0.028 seconds.

And the top three drivers were close as Cupra driver Aurélien Comte was 91 thousands of a second from Azcona in third place.

Santiago Urrutia was fastest of the Geely Cyan Racing drivers, taking the new Geely Preface TCR to fourth place, 0.224 seconds from the fastest time of the session – making it four different manufacturers in the top four.

ALM Motorsport team-mates Teddy Clairet and Jenson Brickley claimed fifth and sixth place, 0.267 and 0.286 seconds from P1 respectively.

Reigning champion Yann Ehrlacher took his Geely to seventh place, four tenths from the top time.

Julien Briché was eighth fastest ahead of BRC Racing’s Norbert Michelisz in ninth.

Last year’s runner-up Thed Björk rounded off the top ten, 1.165 seconds behind Azcona.

The session was interrupted once by a full course yellow as Viktor Andersson came to a halt due to a suspected gearbox or driveshaft failure in his Monlau Motorsport-prepared Cupra.

There was a flurry of deleted lap times throughout the session, with BRC Racing’s Gabriele Covini unable to record a single approved lap time.

One of his deleted times would have placed him at the top of the table.

The second practice session starts at 17:15 CEST.
