Mike Rockenfeller to join Farfus and Tomczyk at Nürburgring
Audi’s Mike Rockenfeller will join BMW drivers, Martin Tomczyk and Augusto Farfus, at the Nürburgring Nordschleife for its annual 24-hour race, which takes place immediately after Sunday’s DTM race at Brands Hatch.
Although Tomczyk and Farfus were confirmed to take part in April, Rockenfeller’s decision appears to have been made relatively late, with the Phoenix Racing team making the announcement over the weekend.
He will share an Audi R8 LMS with double Le Mans winner, Marcel Fässler, and Frank Stippler, who, like his two teammates, has experience in the DTM.
Meanwhile, the BMW pairing will take part in the event behind the wheel of two Schubert Motorsport Z4 GT3s, with Tomczyk sharing one car with the marque’s long-term sportscar drivers, Claudia Hurtgen, Dirk Adorf and Jens Klinsmann, whereas Farfus will join Dirk and Jorg Muller, as well as another former DTM man, Uwe Alzen.
Regardless of their Nürburgring duties, the DTM drivers will take part in practice and qualifying on Saturday at Brands Hatch, as well as Sunday’s race. However, the series organiser, the ITR, and the German motorsport federation, the DMSB, has organised a shuttle for the drivers to return to Germany immediately after.
