Bruno Spengler hails ‘amazing’ performance from BMW

Reigning DTM champion Bruno Spengler has described the performance of his Schnitzer prepared BMW M3 as ‘amazing’ in today’s race at Brands Hatch.

Spengler started the race from fourth on the grid, but jumped to third after he took advantage of stablemate Joey Hand’s poor start. Following Augusto Farfus’ retirement, Spengler was elevated to second, where he stayed to finish behind race winner Mike Rockenfeller.

After the race, Spengler admitted he felt he could have been quicker thanks to the performance of his car, but elected to settle for points as opposed to risking a shunt.

“It was a very good day for us, and I’m very happy as we scored some important points.

“The car was amazing over the race distance and I could push like I wanted. It was lots of fun to drive here today, so thanks to Schnitzer as it was a great achievement.

“I played it [the race] safe, as I just wanted to drive a good race.”

Spengler also said the challenges that the short 1.9 kilometer throws up makes it one of the most difficult races on the calendar.

“There’s never an easy race in the DTM, and this is why it’s so fun. The track is small, so it’s a hard challenge to pit at right time and it’s also hard from pit wall.”
