Roberto Merhi reacts to Glock criticism

Mercedes’ Roberto Merhi has responded to Timo Glock’s criticism of his driving during Sunday’s DTM race at Brands Hatch.

The pair made contact on the sixth lap of the 98 lap race, after which Glock tried to defend his position from Merhi at the bottom of Graham Hill hill.

The Mercedes driver then caught the rear wheel of Glock’s BMW; a move which sent him onto the grass on the Cooper Straight and caused the ex-Formula 1 driver to describe the young Spaniard as ‘dangerous’ after the race.

Glock also went as far to suggest that the series organiser, the ITR, should give Merhi a five-place grid penalty for the incident at the next round at Spielberg.

However, in the aftermath of the incident, Merhi has responded to Glock’s criticism and maintains he was not at fault for the incident and has nothing to apologise for.

“For me the overtaking of Glock was totally normal,” he told TouringCarTimes. “I was on the inside and just faster than him.”

“If you have a look over the last years in the DTM you will find a dozen overtaking [manoeuvres] like mine.

“For me it is important that I have nothing to reproach myself [for].

“What Glock said after the race was not nice, but honestly I don’t really care what other people say about me.

“In the end what matters is where you finish a race.”
