DTM America postponed until 2017 at the earliest

The ITR has announced that the North American-based series of the DTM will begin in 2017 at the earliest.

Autosport reported that the date for the adoption of the series’ rules by Grand-Am and the Japanese Super GT series had been approved at the Norisring.

The announcement followed the first meeting of a new Steering Committee, which included representatives from the DTM, Grand-Am and Super GT series, as well as the respective motorsport federations of Germany, the US and Japan.

Grand-Am, which is responsible for DTM America, announced in March that expected to launch the US series in 2015, or 2016.

However, the DTM has since then announced that will plans which will see a new set of regulations and a smaller, two-litre turbocharged engine, for 2016, and as a result, has pushed the US series to 2017 at the earliest.

The ITR chairman, Hans Werner Aufrecht said: “The common goal of all the parties within the steering commission is to use common regulations from 2017 onwards. It is an important first step.”
