Edoardo Mortara and Gary Paffett handed suspended penalties

Audi’s Edoardo Mortara and Mercedes’ Gary Paffett have been issued two-race suspended penalties, after the pair made contact on three occassions late in the race at the Norisring.

The race stewards issued five place grid penalties for to both drivers for the next races at Moscow and the Nurburgring, which will be enacted if they commit similar acts at these two events.

The first incident was Mortara’s aggressive swipe when exiting the pits to block Paffett, and the next came on lap 79, when Mortara hit Paffett going into the Spitzkerve, damaging his Audi RS 5 in the process and pushed the 2005 DTM champion wide.

Paffett was demoted to fifth as a result, as was Mortara to fourth, but the Briton managed to recover to third.

However, on lap 82, the pair made contact once again coming out of the Bahnhofkurve and both retired on the spot.
