Bruno Spengler unconcerned about points difference to Mike Rockenfeller
Reigning DTM champion, Bruno Spengler, says he is not concerned about his failure to score at the Moscow Raceway, following his accident with Audi’s Miguel Molina.
The pair collided when the Spaniard speared into the back of Spengler’s BMW going into the first turn at the start of lap 2; whilst Molina retired a handful of laps later due to excessive damage to the front of his RS 5, Spengler was able to continue but finished 19th.
“As early as the second lap, Miguel Molina hit me and my car spun, so obviously I wasn’t too happy about this,” Spengler told TouringCarTimes. “That damaged my car and really made it undriveable.
“Because of this, at no point in the race did I have the pace to go on the attack.”
Going into the race, Spengler was two points behind drivers’ championship leader, Mike Rockenfeller, but come the end of the race, the Audi driver had extended his lead at the top of the championship to 27 points as a result of his victory, and Spengler’s failure to score.
However, when asked whether he thought the accident could have decided the championship with four rounds to go, the French-Canadian responded: “[I don’t think so], it’s still a long season and a lot can happen.”
Mercedes’ Gary Paffett lies third in the championship, a further ten points behind Spengler on 57 points.
