RBM BMW hails “fantastic” Augusto Farfus

RBM BMW team principal, Bart Mampaey, has described Augusto Farfus as “fantastic” following the Brazilian’s victory at Oschersleben.

Farfus managed to jump pole-sitter, Jamie Green, at the start and drove a controlled race to score his second win of 2013 by 6.2 seconds ahead of championship leader, Mike Rockenfeller.

The weekend also marked the sixth race in succession that Farfus made it into Q4, as well as scoring his third consecutive podium finish.

“That was a fantastic performance from Augusto [Farfus],” said Mampaey after the race. “Even his qualifying was awesome, [as] that was the sixth time in a row he had made it into the top-four qualifying, which is very impressive.

“The key to the race was his perfect start, after which he was able to open up a lead and control the pace.

“From a strategic point of view, it was not easy keeping Mike Rockenfeller at bay, [but] In the end, our pace was good enough on both compounds to stay in front right through to the finish.”

Farfus was equally as happy with his performance and feels he performed to the best of his ability throughout the race on both tyre compounds.

“Every victory is special and you have to fight very hard for them, but this track is also very special as I have great memories from racing here in the past,” said Farfus. “I had a good start from second and the pace of the car was very good from the beginning.”

“I was able to pull away with the option tyre, then with the prime I could keep up with Mike Rockenfeller, [and] the car was very stable for the entire race.

I wanted to do the best job I could and thankfully that was good enough for first.”

The Brazilian has now moved up to second in the title race and now has 91 points to Rockenfeller’s 124.

Farfus is now the only driver who can stop the Audi driver from claiming his first DTM title.

However, Rockenfeller just needs a second place finish in one of the final two rounds to secure Audi’s first drivers’ title since 2011.
