Bruno Spengler leads BMW 1-2-3-4 sweep at Hockenheim

BMW’s Bruno Spengler has taken a dominant pole position in the final qualifying session of the year at Hockenheim, ahead of Schnitzer team-mate, Dirk Werner, and RMG BMW’s Andy Priaulx.

Spengler set his quickest time of 1m33.443 to take pole by 0.303 seconds ahead of Werner and Priaulx who for the first time in his DTM career, made it through into Q4.

MTEK BMW’s Timo Glock was on course to make it into P3, but had his lap-time disallowed for exceeding track limits.

The result makes it four BMWs in the top-four for the M3’s final outing, before the manufacturer switches to the M4 in 2014.

Miguel Molina was the best placed Audi driver in fifth, after missing out on Q4 by 0.011s in his Phoenix run RS 5.

Zandvoort pole-sitter, Marco Wittmann, was sixth in the other MTEK BMW, ahead of the Abt Audi pairing of Mattias Ekström and Adrien Tambay.

Newly crowned DTM champion, Mike Rockenfeller, rounded out the top-10 with Augusto Farfus.

Robert Wickens compounded a tough day as the best of the Mercedes drivers in 13th, three places ahead of HWA team-mate Gary Paffett.

The pairing were split by Audi’s Filipe Albuquerque, and Mercedes rookie, Pascal Wehrlein.

Edoardo Mortara’s nightmare 2013 continued with Rosberg Audi, after he failed to make it into Q2 by 0.147s.

He will line up in 18th between Dani Juncadella’s Mercedes, and Audi stablemate, Jamie Green, who finished the session 19th in the final qualifying session of his first year as an Audi driver.

Christian Vietoris was another driver who had yet another tough session after winding up 20th.

His HWA team-mate, Roberto Merhi, will share the back row with RBM BMW’s Joey Hand after both drivers could only manage 21st and 22nd respectively.
