Mercedes to carry performance weights at the Hungaroring

All of the Mercedes DTM drivers will be carrying performance weights at the next round of the 2014 DTM season at the Hungaroring, following Christian Vietoris’ Oschersleben win.

On the eve of the 2014 DTM season, the series organiser, the ITR, introduced a new performance weight regulation.

The ruling states that the winning driver, plus any drivers from the winning manufacturer who finished in the top 10 must carry an extra five kilograms in the next round. Any drivers from the winning manufacturer who finished out of the top 10 will also be forced to carry extra weight, albeit at a reduced 2.5kg.

Any drivers from the second-best manufacturer (in this case Audi) will use the same weight in the next race, and drivers from the third best manufacturer (BMW) will lose either 2.5kg if they finished in the top 10, or 5kg if they finished 11th or worse.

The next round at the Hungaroring on June 1 will see the following drivers have the following performance weights:

Mercedes
Christian Vietoris +5kg
Paul di Resta +5kg
Gary Paffett +5kg
Dani Juncadella +2.5k
Vitaly Petrov +2.5kg
Robert Wickens +2.5kg
Pascal Wehrlein +2.5kg

BMW
Martin Tomczyk -2.5kg
Augusto Farfus -2.5kg
Antonio Felix da Costa -5kg
Bruno Spengler -5kg
Maxime Martin -5kg
Joey Hand -5kg
Marco Wittmann -5kg
Timo Glock -5kg

None of the eight Audi drivers will gain or lose any performance weight.
