Marco Wittmann heads BMW 1-2 in Hungary qualifying

BMW took pole in the Hungarian round of the DTM at Budapest, with Marco Wittmann taking top-spot ahead of BMW stablemate, ex-Formula 1 driver Timo Glock.

The Hockenheim winner was quickest in all three parts of qualifying to storm to a second DTM career pole.

Miguel Molina, who set fastest time in the free practice, was the best placed Audi driver in third, ahead of the rookie BMW pairing of Maxime Martin and Antonio Felix da Costa in fourth and fifth respectively. Augusto Farfus rounded out the top six.

Adrien Tambay was seventh in his Abt Audi, and Audi’s DTM rookie Nico Müller finished eighth.

Despite Christian Vietoris taking victory last time out at Oschersleben, Mercedes once again struggled in the dry conditions.

Pascal Wehrlein was the best placed Mercedes driver in 16th, while positions 19 to 23 were occupied by Mercedes drivers.

Christian Vietoris and Vitaly Petrov will start from the back row of the grid.
