DTM rookie Maxime Martin calls Moscow pole ‘awesome’

BMW DTM rookie Maxime Martin has described his maiden DTM career pole as ‘awesome’.

The Belgian moved from racing in the BMW Blancpain programme to the Munich-based manufacturer’s DTM RMG team for 2014.

Martin has only scored eight points since the start of the 2014 DTM season at Hockenheim, but in Moscow, set a lap time of 1:28.619 seconds to take the first pole of his DTM career.

“To start only my fifth DTM race from the very front is awesome,” said Martin after qualifying. “It feels absolutely great.

“That was a fantastic qualifying for me – and in all three sessions too.”

Martin added that while he expects the race to not be such a straightforward affair, he aims to use the opportunity to confirm he can be a DTM front-runner.

“However, we are well aware that the race is a completely different story. I now want to show that I can consistently mix it with the front-runners.”

The 2012 DTM champion Bruno Spengler, will line up second, while the sister cars of Augusto Farfus, DTM points leader Marco Wittmann and ex-Formula 1 driver Timo Glock also made it into the top-10.
