Maxime Martin hails “incredible” maiden DTM win

BMW DTM rookie Maxime Martin has described his maiden DTM career victory as “incredible” after winning the fifth round of the 2014 DTM season at the Moscow Raceway.

On Saturday, Martin took the first pole of his DTM career behind the wheel of his RMG run BMW M4 DTM and looked peerless as he took his first win as a DTM driver.

Martin added that it was also the first single-seater win of his racing career.

“I can’t quite believe it yet, it’s simply incredible,” said Martin after the race. “I never paid much attention to Formula One and where driving in the DTM was always a dream of mine, I have never driven single-seater cars.

“And now here I am after five races, with a first pole position and maiden win to my name, it’s incredible!

“I would like to thank everyone at the RMG team, because the pit stop was awesome and the strategy was spot on.

“The team and, of course, everyone at BMW really did a fantastic job.”

Martin’s BMW stablemate, 2012 DTM champion Bruno Spengler, started and finished second.

Following his victory, Martin is now sixth in the championship with 33 points while Spengler is tied with Audi’s Edoardo Mortara on 41 in third.
