Zandvoort back as Guangzhou replacement

Zandvoort is back on the DTM calendar as replacement for the cancelled Guangzhou street race in China.

DTM was supposed to return to China this year for the first time since 2010. But rumours about the cancelation of the proposed street race in Guangzhou have been circulating for a while.

“We have to be able to also guarantee the DTM standard when it comes to racing in foreign countries. This applies to the safety aspects around the respective circuit, the paddock, the pit facilities including the garages and the spectator areas such as the grand stands. In addition, a solid funding also must be ensured. When it comes supposed to be held in China, this year, all this couldn’t be realised on the necessary level,” said ITR Chairman Hans Werner Aufrecht.

While the race has been cancelled, the DTM organisation states its intention to return to China in the future.

”Nonetheless, coming back to the most populous country of the world and one of the most important markets for the premium-car manufacturers involved in DTM to contest races, here, remains our goal. And we will keep on working on realising this goal,” said Aufrecht.

The race in China was supposed to be held on September 27-28th, a date to be kept for Zandvoort, at which DTM held its penultimate race last year.
