Timo Glock fastest in damp first practice at the Nürburgring

BMW’s Timo Glock was the fastest in a wet-to-dry first free practice session at the Nürburgring. The session was wet at the start, and continued to dry, meaning it was mostly down to who crossed the line last on slick tyres to go fastest.

Glock’s time of 1:27.454 was four seconds off of Pascal Wehrlein’s lap record set last year, showing that the track was still slippery even in the final minutes of the one hour session.

The closest challenge to the BMW Team MTEK driver came from Mercedes, with Canada’s Robert Wickens second fastest, just over a quarter of a second down, with Wehrlein third fastest, just within a second.

Gary Paffett was fourth fastest in his HWA Mercedes C-Coupé, with Christian Vietoris, ensuring a strong showing from the Mercedes-Benz team in the tricky conditions.

Nico Müller was the best placed of the Audi drivers, setting the sixth fastest time in his Audi Team Rosberg-run RS 5, 1.3 seconds off the pace.

Mercedes’ Paul di Resta, BMW’s Antonio Félix da Costa, Audi’s Miguel Molina and finally the BMW M4 of Maxime Martin completed the top ten.

The next free practice session gets underway at 10:10 CET.
