Daniel Juncadella loses his points after a 30-second penalty

Mercedes AMG’s driver Daniel Juncadella, who had a recovering race today in Zandvoort from penultimate row of the grid to eighth place, has dropped out of the points positions after the Stewards found him responsible for Augusto Farfus’ crash.

The Spaniard had a difficult start of the weekend, being able to qualify only in 22nd place, after a myriad of problems yesterday.

The race didn’t start well for him, being stuck behind his much slower team mate Vitaly Petrov in the initial stages, and he fought his way through the field. However, on lap 18, Juncadella pushed Augusto Farfus, who went onto crashing against the barriers, having to retire and causing the second safety car of the race.

For this reason, Juncadella was given a 30-second time penalty, to be added to his race time, dropping from eighth to 17th in the classification and losing the four points he had achieved.

The Stewards also issued warnings to Juncadella himself and his fellow-Mercedes-driver Robert Wickens, BMW’s Augusto Farfus and Bruno Spengler and also to Audi’s Mike Rockenfeller, Edoardo Mortara y Timo Scheider for using the DRS at the wrong time.

The DRS isn’t allowed in the first three laps of a Safety Car intervention, but it seems that the computer system preventing its use didn’t work properly, thus the drivers affected didn’t receive further penalties.
