DTM to scrap option tyre for 2015 season

The 2014 DTM season is just over, but work has already started towards 2015. Series promoter ITR  e.V. are considering suggestions and comments received throughout the year in order to bring interesting races and continue building the fan base. The first casualties have been the option tyres.

Feedback received from fans has been presented in commissions with manufacturers and drivers in order to pursue a common goal: that the races are decided on the track, and not with a computer.

In this sense, the option tyres brought some spice to the races, but it wasn’t as much as expected and nobody wants to have to check which compound is being used each time in order to read a race.

Hans Werner Aufretch, Head of ITR, was clear about his vision: “I want to achieve that a TV spectator who is probably a few minutes late in switching on, will find his way into the race action right away and knows who will be challenging for victory at the front of the field.”

Thus, the option tyres will be eliminated from the DTM, and the different commissions and representatives will discuss further ways to ensure it remains competitive, without losing its technological edge.
