Mercedes confirms 2015 DTM driver line-up

After months of speculation, Mercedes Benz has confirmed their chosen line up for their 2015 campaign in the DTM. With two newcomers, Maximilian Götz and Lucas Auer already confirmed, the Stuttgart manufacturer drops Vitaly Petrov, retaining the rest of its drivers from last season.

“The new DTM season promises to be extremely exciting. While having two races per weekend means a fresh challenge for all drivers and teams, it will also be a great experience for the fans. Five of our drivers have already won a DTM race during their careers. We want to tap into that success this year,” said Toto Wolff, head of Mercedes Motorsport.

Mercedes is to expand its operation in the series, having eight C-Coupé DTM units, one more than 2014. In order to support the additional effort, the three-point star manufacturer has welcome ART GP on board, to join Mücke Motorsport and HWA as its third official team.

So far, Gary Paffett had been the only driver confirmed to continue with the outfit, with Maxilimilian Götz and Lucas Auer joining the team from Mercedes’ GT Customer Program and Formula 3 operations respectively.

Today, it has been confirmed that German drivers Christian Vietoris and Pascal Wehrlein, Briton Paul Di Resta, Canadian Robert Wickens and Spaniard Daniel Juncadella will continue driving for Mercedes in the 2015 DTM campaign. Vitaly Petrov is thus dropped, after a poor 2014 season.

Mercedes has also released details of the drivers allocated to each team, with ART Grand Prix and Mücke Motorsport managing two cars each, whilst HWA will be responsible for the remaining four.

With both Mercedes and Audi having confirmed their line ups, and BMW having confirmed the continuity of its 2014 drivers, only dropping Joey Hand, there is only one seat remaining at the Bavarian manufacturer for the 2015 DTM season.
