Tom Blomqvist gets last spot at BMW for the 2015 DTM

BMW Motorsport has announced Tom Blomqvist as their eighth and last driver for the 2015 season in the Deutsche Tourenwagen Masters. The Bavarian manufacturer had already confirmed the continuity of their 2014 line up, only dropping American Joey Hand.

Blomqvist had a first impression of the M4 DTM back in December, when he, alongside seven other hopefuls, participated in the post season testing held in the southern Spanish track of Jerez de la Frontera.

The Briton, who is the son of rally legend Stig Blomqvist, was the runner up in the FIA European Formula 3 Championship last year, and has extensive experience in single seaters, despite being only 21 years of age.

BMW Motorsport Director Jens Marquardt welcomed Blomqvist on board: “We are delighted to welcome another very promising youngster into our ranks, in the form of Tom Blomqvist. Tom was extremely impressive at the test in Jerez, and comes to us with a wealth of experience from Formula 3. I am confident he has everything he needs to find his feet quickly in the DTM. With his likeable personality he is definitely a great asset to our line-up. We have done well with our choice of rookies so far. We will support Tom to the best of our ability to be successful from the word go in 2015.”

Tom Blomqvist is equally thrilled at the opportunity of becoming a works driver:  “I cannot put into words just how delighted I am to have been signed up by BMW Motorsport. After the test in Spain, I was able to envisage just how it would feel to be a BMW works driver and regularly push myself to the limit in the BMW M4 DTM. I’m really proud to be a member of the BMW Motorsport family now.”

With today’s announcement, BMW completes its 2015 DTM driver line-up. Reigning champion Marco Wittmann will be partnered by Augusto Farfus, Bruno Spengler, Maxime Martin, Antonio Félix Da Costa, Timo Glock, Martin Tomczyk and Tom Blomqvist, who will be the only rookie in the ranks of the Bavarian manufacturer.

All 24 seats are now taken for the 2015 DTM season, which starts on the 3rd of May in Hockenheim.
