Marco Wittmann sets the pace in Oschersleben

Marco Wittmann has started the final preparations for the 2015 DTM season with a strong performance in day 1 of testing at Oschersleben. The reigning champion dominated both morning and afternoon sessions, being the second busiest driver on track.

BMW Team RMG’s Wittmann clocked a best lap time of 1:19.913 around the Motorsport Arena, completing 164 laps. Second on the first day was Robert Wickens, who set his best lap during the morning session, focusing on setup work during the afternoon in his Mercedes AMG C63 DTM. The Canadian completed 126 laps, with a best register of 1:20.133.

Next overall on the classification were the BMW trio formed by Timo Glock, António Félix Da Costa and Tom Blomqvist. The German at the wheel of the Deutsche Post M4 DTM was second fastest during the afternoon.

Sixth fastest was Mercedes’ Gary Paffett, followed by his team mate Christian Vietoris, completing 124 and 146 laps each.

Eighth fastest and Audi’s top man was Nico Müller, 0.628 seconds off Wittmann’s time in his RS 5 DTM. He led team mates Mattias Ekström and Timo Scheider.

Maximilian Götz had a very intensive morning, completing 93 laps. However, in the afternoon, he experienced technical problems, stopping on track and causing the session to be red flagged whilst his Mercedes AMG C63 DTM was being recovered.

Edoardo Mortara also experienced difficulties in his Audi RS 5 DTM, having limited track time today.

The second day of testing at Oschersleben starts tomorrow morning at 9:00 CEST.
