Audi dominates second free practice at Hockenheim

Edoardo Mortara was the fastest man on track in this morning’s second free practice at Hockenheim, host of the Deutsche Tourenwagen Masters 2015 season opener.

The Audi Sport Team Abt driver set a best lap of 1:32.672 in dry weather conditions, with a timid sun shining over the German track. Second was his team mate Jamie Green, at the wheel of the Audi RS 5 DTM from Team Rosberg, just 0.102 seconds off the pace

Tom Blomqvist had a solid session, being second on the classification, although he was pip by Green in the final minutes. The BMW Team RBM rookie was 0.124 seconds behind Mortara.

Timo Scheider and Mattias Ekström followed for Audi, with reigning champion Marco Wittman sixth for BMW.

Audi Team Abt Sportsline driver Miguel Molina was seventh, 0.232 seconds behind his team mate. The Spaniard encountered traffic on his final run, being unable to be faster.

Pascal Wehrlein was eight in his HWA AG Mercedes C63 DTM, followed by Audi’s Mike Rockenfeller. Augusto Farfus completed the top ten for BMW Team RBM.

Second free practice was mostly trouble free. BMW’s Timo Glock spun off track, but was able to recover. Mercedes’ Gary Paffett and Lucas Auer, as well as Mike Rockenfeller, missed the braking point at Turn 4 several times, without consequences.

The drivers had to focus on set up work again, after yesterday’s wet session.  The qualifying session for Race 1 is scheduled for 12:00 CEST.
