Jamie Green and Audi dominate second practice at the Lausitzring

Dry skies and warm temperatures welcomed the DTM field this morning at the Lausitzring for the second free practice session.

Audi Sport proposed to continue showing themselves strong, with their drivers dominating the top positions from the onset. Mattias Ekström was the first to open hostilities, and was the first to set a competitive time. Team Rosberg’s Nico Müller stole the top spot, but his team mate Jamie Green improved on him, setting a best lap time of 1:17.714.

After the first stint, most drivers went back to the pits for adjustments. On their return to the track, Jamie Green struggled with pace to go back to the garage after just one flying lap. Audi Team Phoenix’ Mike Rockenfeller was flying and set a best time of 1:17.688. His team mate Timo Scheider also improved to climb to third position, making it an all-Audi top 6 half way through the session.

Green went out again, but still didn’t manage to improve his best laptime. Nico Müller set a new personal best to go third.

At Mercedes, Gary Paffett managed a quiet time on track to go sixth, but he was later improved by team mates Pascal Wehrlein and Daniel Juncadella.

In the final minutes of the session, times moved quickly. Jamie Green managed a good lap to be fastest again with 1:17.430. BMW’s Tom Blomqvist, fastest yesterday, climbed to second, followed closely by Mercedes’ Robert Wickens.

Edoardo Mortara improved to go second again, just 0.059 seconds behind his team mate. Audi’s Miguel Molina also improved and climbed to fifth position.

At the chequered flag, Jamie Green led the field, followed by Edoardo Mortara. Tom Blomqvist was BMW’s best man in third place, followed by Robert Wickens, best for Mercedes. Fifth was Audi’s Miguel Molina, with team mates Mike Rockenfeller, Mattias Ekström, Nico Müller and Timo Scheider next. Mercedes’ Paul Di Resta completed the top 10.

The 20-minute qualifying session for race 1 is scheduled for 15:00 CEST (GMT + 2).
