Jamie Green and Audi lead the standings by a reduced margin

The third round of the 2015 Deutsche Tourenwagen Masters season didn’t disappoint in terms of action and excitement. Mercedes dominated at the Norisring, with Audi heavily affected by the performance weights, and BMW showing a mild improvement.

Standings’ leader Jamie Green had a discreet weekend, being the only Audi RS 5 DTM in the points in Saturday’s race, but in a modest seventh position. The Briton from Team Rosberg was heading for another points’ finish on Sunday, but a puncture after a contact with Maxime Martin forced him to pit with just three minutes on the clock, falling in the classification.

Green still leads the Drivers’ standings with 81 points, 11 more than Mattias Ekström, who was the only Audi in the top 10 on Sunday. The Swede battled for the podium with Bruno Spengler, but lost out, finishing in fourth position.

Pascal Wehrlein is third with 67 points. The Mercedes driver won the first race at the Norisring and was a solid fifth on Sunday, confirming his bid as the leading driver for the Stuttgart manufacturer.

Bruno Spengler, whose third position on Sunday was the first podium for BMW this season, is the best placed driver for the Bavarian manufacturer. The Canadian is ninth in the standings, with 27 points in his account.

The Teams’ classification has changed hands, as it is now the gooix/Original-Teile pair of HWA AG the leader in the standings for Mercedes AMG. The outfit, lining up Pascal Wehrlein and Christian Vietoris, had a very strong weekend and has 103 points, six more than Audi’s Team Abt Sportsline, responsible for Mattias Ekström’s and Miguel Molina’s RS 5 DTM.

The best placed team for BMW is Team MTEK, aligning Bruno Spengler and Timo Glock, in eighth position in the standings, with 32 points.

Audi Sport still leads in the Manufacturers’ table, with 283 points, despite scoring only 18 this weekend.

Mercedes AMG has, however, closed the gap significantly, and lies second in the standings with 235 points, 48 less than their Ingolstadt rivals. BMW is third with 88 points, hoping for improvements that will get the M4 DTM back on the competitive track.

The next round of the DTM takes place at Zandvoort, from the 10th to the 12th of July.
