Pascal Wehrlein: “I was lucky to finish”

Mercedes Formula 1 reserve and DTM driver Pascal Wehrlein has admitted he was “lucky to finish” after making contact with the Audi RS5 DTM of Miguel Molina during Race 2 at Zandvoort.

During the latter stages of Sunday’s one hour race at Zandvoort, the HWA driver clashed with Molina’s Abt prepared car.

While Molina failed to score come the end of the race, Wehrlein finished sixth.

As a result of the contact, Wehrlein suffered damage to his C63 AMG DTM and until the end of the race, had to defend heavily from the Audi RS5 DTM of Mattias Ekström who finished seventh after starting 16th.

“I was lucky to finish the race in that state,” said Wehrlein.

“Until the scrap with Molina, the car was so badly damaged, I had to defend my position strongly at the end.

“I was afraid I was going to get a puncture, [because] my steering was totally out, and I was missing several aerodynamic components.”

Wehrlein’s Mercedes stablemates Christian Vietoris and 2005 DTM champion Gary Paffett finished eighth and 10th respectively, making it three Mercedes’ in the top ten.
