Edoardo Mortara tops Friday free practice at Spielberg

The fifth round of the 2015 Deutsche Tourenwagen Masters season is already on, with the first free practice session having taken place this afternoon. Audi Sport is back to the top of the timesheets, with Edoardo Mortara setting the fastest time today at the Red Bull Ring.

The Italian driver from Team Abt lapped around the Styrian track with a best time of 1:25.585 in his RS 5 DTM. Mortara was just 0.073 seconds faster than Mercedes’ Gary Paffett, second classified today.

Audi and Mercedes clearly dominated the session. Timo Scheider was third for the Ingolstad manufacturer, with Daniel Juncadella in fourth place for the Stuttgart squad, 0.445 seconds off the pace. The Spaniards team mates Paul Di Resta, Christian Vietoris and local hero Lucas Auer followed in the time sheets.

Reigning champion Marco Wittmann was the top man for BMW in eighth place, 0.534 seconds off Mortara’s time. Audi’s Adrien Tambay and Mercedes’ Maximilian Götz completed the top ten.

The points’ leader Jamie Green was the busiest man on track, completing 28 laps with a best time of 1:26.405 in 17th place 0.820 seconds away from Mortara.

DTM on track action resumes tomorrow at 12:00 CEST (GMT + 2) for the second free practice session.
