Miguel Molina hit by braking problems in qualifying

Miguel Molina had a difficult qualifying session for the DTM’s Race 1 this afternoon at the Red Bull Ring, being forced to stop on the track, halting his progress and seeing his car recovered by the marshals to the pits.

Audi Sport Team Abt Sportsline’s Molina, together with his team mate Mattias Ekström, were the only two cars on track as the other competitors returned to the pits for fresh tyres, in a bid to improve their lap times. Whilst Ekström went up to a temporary fourth position, Molina had to stop at Turn 3, causing a red flag, so his RS 5 DTM could be recovered. He was 14th at the time.

“The problem was that a brake pump became disengaged, and was getting loosen and loosen by the moment”, Miguel Molina told TouringCarTimes. “It got to a point where I couldn’t brake at all, so I had to stop, which is a shame.”

Molina’s car can be repaired without breaking the parc fermé rules, due to the problem being a safety related one. Unless there is another unexpected issue found, the Spaniard should be on the Race 1 grid, starting from the 20th position he dropped to in the end.

The start for Race 1 is scheduled for 18:13 CEST (GMT + 2).
