Pascal Wehrlein leads the mid season standings

Today’s race at the Red Bull Ring was the ninth out of 18 in the 2015 Deutsche Tourenwagen Masters season. Pascal Wehrlein and Audi Sport lead the standings, in a championship that is heating up.

Audi Sport Team Rosberg’s Jamie Green had led the Drivers’ table since he started the season with a dominating performance at Hockenheim. However, Norisring and Zandvoort weren’t brilliant for the Briton. Today’s retirement due to a transmission problem has meant a further setback.

On the other hand, Pascal Wehrlein has been a constant asset to Mercedes, winning the first race in Norisring and being a regular visitor not only to the podium, but also to points’ positions. Today’s second place has put the 20-year old as the youngest ever standings leader, with a total of 94 points.

Audi’s Mattias Ekström is second with 86 points, three more than today’s winner Edoardo Mortara. Jamie Green is now fourth with 81 points.

Audi still leads the Manufacturers’ table, although by a reduced margin over Mercedes. The Ingolstadt squad has 337 in its account, only 37 more than their Stuttgart rivals. BMW, who struggled again at the Red Bull Ring, lags behind with 247.

In the Team’s table, the gooix/Original Teile pair at HWA AG lead with 146 points, 33 more than their most inmediate rival Audi Sport Team Abt Sportsline. The best placed BMW formation is Team RMG, sixth with just 83 points.

The DTM resumes tomorrow for the second day of racing in Spielberg, at 11:00 CEST (GMT + 2) for the morning warm up.
