The DMSB upholds Blomqvist’s disqualification from Norisring

BMW Motorsport has seen their appeal over Tom Blomqvist’s disqualification from Norisring rejected by the DMSB (the German motorsport governing body), after the alterations on the Briton’s car were deemed to be in breach of Article 2.14 of the Technical Regulations.

Tom Blomqvist’s BMW M4 DTM was fitted with a new driver cooling system for Sunday’s race at Norisring, whose specification was outside the homologation for the vehicle. The Stewards considered it was performance enhancing, thus excluding the rookie from the results.

BMW Motorsport appealed against the decision, and the DMSB, together with electronics partner Dekra, impounded the vehicle for further examination. It found that the system fed the air into the rear wheel arches, then to the driver’s seat, to then discharge it over the rear diffuser. It was considered to add aerodynamic benefit to the car, thus increasing the M4 DTM’s performance.

The DMSB has thus rejected BMW’s appeal and has upheld the disqualification. Since Blomqvist had finished in 16th position at the race, the points’ standings are not affected by the decision.

A meeting between the three manufacturers involved in the DTM was held last night at the Red Bull Ring.
