Audi tops the first day of testing in Monteblanco

Mattias Ekström was the fastest man today in Monteblanco, host of the first DTM pre-season testing of 2016.

The Swede from Audi Sport clocked a best lap of 1:21.614, being also the busiest man in the Southern Spanish track, completing 179 laps.

Mercedes AMG’s Robert Wickens was second on the first day of the new C63 DTM, managing a best lap just 0.039 seconds off Ekström’s time. The Canadian from HWA was impressed by his new machine: “Driving the new 2016 DTM car felt just great. The car looks fantastic and ran really well too. I can’t wait for the next round of testing in Hockenheim.”

Bruno Spengler was third with the BMW M4 DTM. The Canadian managed 125 laps around Monteblanco, setting a best lap 0.386 seconds off the pace.

Audi’s Jamie Green, BMW’s Marco Wittmann and Mercedes’ Christian Vietoris completed the results.

Gary Paffett and Paul Di Resta will take over for Mercedes AMG for the remainder of the test, with Augusto Farfus and Timo Glock also driving for BMW. Audi will continue with Ekström and Green until the end of the Monteblanco test.
