Mattias Ekström and Audi dominate day two at Monteblanco

Mattias Ekström continued his impressive form from yesterday, setting the fastest time on the second day of the collective pre-season DTM test in Monteblanco.

The Swede was again the busiest man on track, completing 206 laps at the wheel of his Audi RS 5 DTM to set a best time of 1:21.429, faster than yesterday’s register.

Marco Wittmann was second overall and fastest for BMW Motorsport, lapping around the Spanish track just 0.101 seconds off the place after 161 laps.

Jamie Green showed the good form of the RS 5 DTM, completing 200 laps and finishing in third position with a best time of 1:21.711.

Mercedes AMG’s Paul Di Resta and Gary Paffett took over the driving duties for the Stuttgart manufacturer. The pair finished in fourth and fifth positions respectively, with Paffett having some problems with the new C63 DTM.

Di Resta had a very positive first contact with his new car for the 2016 season: “It was a productive day for us. I covered a lot of laps and was able to complete my planned programme. We as a team can be satisfied. We intend to build on what we’ve achieved tomorrow and gain further insights for Hockenheim. My impressions of the new Mercedes-AMG C 63 DTM are very good so far.”

Audi Sport’s and Mercedes AMG’s line-ups will remain unchanged for the third and final day of testing in Monteblanco, whilst Timo Glock and Augusto Farfus will be taking over for BMW Motorsport.
