Strong showing for BMW Motorsport in Monteblanco test

BMW Motorsport completed three days of testing in Monteblanco. The Bavarian squad had two M4 DTMs on duty, and was able to set the fastest overall time.

Former champions Marco Wittmann and Bruno Spengler were at the wheel for the first two days, with Timo Glock and Augusto Farfus taking over on Thursday.

Teams RMG and MTEK were on duty in Monteblanco for BMW. For both Timo Glock and Augusto Farfus it was the first on track experience with their new teams for the 2016 DTM season.

The Bavarian squad focussed on setup work on the M4 DTM. Together with their fellow DTM rivals and DMSB, new safety systems and procedures for practice and qualifying sessions and races were tested.

Marco Wittmann feels 2016 will give him a fresh perspective in the DTM: “It was nice to make my first outing in the Red Bull BMW M4 DTM. The new colours on the car signify the start of a new chapter for me in 2016. We had two good test days, on which we were able to complete our comprehensive test programme. I ended the second day with the second-fastest time, which was a big positive. I’m confident we can improve compared to 2015, as we worked hard over the winter.”

Bruno Spengler remained focussed on making the car as competitive as possible heading to the new season: “We can be really happy with the test. We did a good job, but we obviously still have plenty to do before the first race. We will continue to improve the set-up of our car in order to be as competitive as possible this season.”

Timo Glock clocked the fastest time of the three days with a register of 1:21.311. The German driver also had a good chance to get to know his new team: “We were able to work through our programme well. I also used the test to take my first steps with my new team, BMW Team RMG, and to get to know my new engineer and Stefan Reinhold’s outfit. I am now looking forward to the next test in Hockenheim.”

Augusto Farfus was the busiest man on track on the final day, and was happy to be back in action: “It was good to be back behind the wheel of the BMW M4 DTM and to get back into the rhythm. I also enjoyed working with my new team, BMW Team MTEK. I felt very welcome and it was also interesting to explore set-up options with my new crew.”

The DTM cars and drivers will take to the track again on the official ITR tests in Hockenheim, from the 5th to the 8th of April.
