Audi Sport tops final day of testing at Hockenheim

Audi Sport dominated the last day of testing at Hockenheim, part of the oficial ITR pre-season tests for the 2016 Deutsche Tourenwagen Masters season. Mike Rockenfeller in the morning and Timo Scheider in the afternoon put the Ingolstadt manufacturer at the top of the timesheets.

The morning session was shorter than in the preceding days, due to the media launch taking place today at the Baden-Wüttemberg track. Mike Rockenfeller was fastest for Audi Sport, with a best lap time of 1:33.197. The 2013 champion was followed by team-mates Edoardo Mortara and Mattias Ekström.

Robert Wickens was fourth fastest for Mercedes AMG, just 0.261 seconds off the pace, followed by Audi’s Jamie Green and BMW’s António Félix Da Costa and Tom Blomqvist.

Paul Di Resta was eighth for Mercedes, with Augusto Farfus and Timo Glock completing the top 10 for BMW Motorsport.

The afternoon session had to be red flagged twice, both due to Audi drivers. Just 90 minutes into the session, Timo Scheider was stuck in the gravel trap at the Motodrom, with his RS 5 DTM having to be recovered. A bit later, Jamie Green went off, touching the barriers with the back of his car, without significant damage.

Timo Scheider clocked the best lap time in the afternoon session, which was significantly slower than the morning one, with drivers focussed on race setup. The 2008 and 2009 champion set a best lap of 1:33.709.

Augusto Farfus, Gary Paffett, Tom Blomqvist, Jamie Green, António Félix Da Costa, Robert Wickens, Timo Glock, Edoardo Mortara and Mike Rockefeller completed the top 10.
