Changes in the DTM weekend format for 2016

The 2016 Deutsche Tourenwagen Masters season is just three weeks away, with teams and drivers having sharpened their tools during the ITR official collective preseason testing in Hockenheim last week.

As part of the continuous effort by ITR and the manufacturers to improve the DTM experience, a new modification for the weekend format has been introduce for this season.

Last year saw the return to two races per weekend, each with their separated 20-minute qualifying session. The action started with a 15-minute rollout, followed by two 45-minute free practice sessions. On Sunday morning, there was a short 15-minute warm up, which was the only chance for drivers and teams to adjust the cars for the longer race of the event.

In 2016 the practice time will change slightly, with now three 30-minute free practice sessions, one on Friday afternoon, and the other two before each qualifying. The Sunday warm-up has been removed from the program.

The first round of the 2016 DTM season will be held at the Baden-Wüttemberg track on May 6-8.
