Da Costa penalised for incorrect DRS use in race 1

António Félix Da Costa had an eventful race yesterday, recovering from 20th on the grid to the final seventh place in the race.

The Portuguese driver from BMW Team Schnitzer was pushed out of the track by Jamie Green during the first slow zone, and then had a hard battle with Mattias Ekström and Gary Paffet in the middle part of the race.

Da Costa was found responsible of engaging the DRS four times during one lap by the stewards, after reviewing the video of the race. The maximum activations per lap allowed in the regulations is three. Thus, the stewards handed the number 13 driver a 5-second pit stop penalty which was replaced by five seconds added to his total racing time.

The Portuguese driver had finished in seventh place, ten seconds ahead of fellow BMW driver Maxime Martin, so the penalty doesn’t affect his position in the official race classification.
