Penalties for Da Costa and Mortara

António Félix Da Costa and Edoardo Mortara had an eventful race at the Red Bull Ring today, host of the second round of the 2016 Deutsche Tourenwagen Masters season. Both drivers had two encounters during the race, which ended with both of them receiving penalties.

The first contact happened in lap seven, when the Portuguese driver from BMW Motorsport pushed Edoardo Mortara to defend himself from the attacks from the Italian from Audi Sport.

As result of this incident, Da Costa has received a warning from the stewards, the second this weekend and this season. Three warnings are translated into a 5-place grid drop at the following race.

Later on lap 24, Da Costa was trying to overtake Mortara, getting ahead just before Würth Kurve. With the Portuguese driver already ahead, the Italian tagged him on the rear left corner of his car, causing both to spin into the gravel trap.

Mortara retired then, whilst Da Costa managed to recover and continue, but could only be 21st in the race. The Portuguese was the only BMW driver to not score any points today.

On a lesser infraction, Da Costa was fined 1,000 Euros for not leaving the steering wheel properly attached on his M4 DTM at the end of the race.
