Another podium in Nuremberg for “Mr Norisring” Jamie Green

Renowned Norisring specialist Jamie Green came away with another podium to his name after the first day of racing in Nuremberg, but admitted he hadn’t taken any risks to try and make it an even better result.

The Team Rosberg driver finished right on the tail of Audi stablemate and race winner Edoardo Mortara, but with Mercedes Team HWA’s Paul di Resta in close company he took the decision not to fight for the lead.

The patient approach paid off for the Leicestershire driver, who is now just six points behind Mortara in the championship standings.

Assessing his race, Green said: “I think I could have taken a risk to overtake Edo at the end, but it didn’t really feel like the right thing to do and we’d seen an incident earlier in the race.

“The first three races of the season I didn’t score any points at all. I’m still recovering from that, so just getting some good results is my target.

“If maybe there was a bigger gap behind I might have made the move, but I felt like if I did we could have got in a three-way fight with Paul [di Resta] and then risk Audi not winning the race.

“From that point of view, I thought it was better to defend second place rather than attack for first.”

The second place marks Green’s seventh visit to the podium at the heralded ‘Franconian Monaco.’
