BMW duo delighted with double podium finish at Norisring

There were double the reasons for celebration at BMW Team RBM after the second DTM race at Norisring, with both Tom Blomqvist and Maxime Martin finishing on the podium at a circuit not expected to suit the M4 DTM.

Blomqvist inherited pole following Mattias Ekström’s penalty and led the opening half of the race in commanding style. However, Audi’s Nico Müller was never far away from the Brit and after at attempt to pass on track was rebuffed, he jumped the BMW in the pitstop phase.

Blomqvist was nevertheless happy with a podium, after a trying Saturday when he could do no better than 15th in the first race.

“I think that’s a really good result. Yesterday wasn’t the best of days for us, so full credit to my team. They transformed my car,” said Blomqvist.

“I started to struggle a little bit towards the end of the stint, but nonetheless it was going quite well. Unfortunately we had a little bit of a problem in the pitstop with a sticking front left.

“But at the end of the day Nico had great pace and I couldn’t really stick with him after the stops. I think my team should be really happy with today’s result.

“We weren’t expecting massive things but the car has been working really well today. I’m really happy with second place.”

For his part, Belgian Martin kept up his incredibly consistent finishing record, passing the damaged Mercedes of Paul di Resta to finish on the podium.

“We decided to stop quite early and it was a quick stop. In the end I could pass Paul – he was slow, I think he had a damaged car. In the end it was a good race and another podium for the team. It’s not common here for us at the Norisring, so we have to be really happy,” said Martin.
