Tin Sritrai on pole position for TCR Asia race in Shanghai

Thai driver Tin Sritrai will start Race 1 from pole position in his Team Thailand Honda Civic TCR ahead of Andy Yan’s Engstler Volkswagen Golf.

Sritrai’s best lap of 2:19.210 was just 85-thousandths of a second faster than his Hong Kong rival, with Macanese driver Henry Ho completing the top three in the Champ Motorsport Honda Civic.

Henry Ho’s team-mate Michael Ho will start fourth on the grid, with Kevin Tse the best-placed of the Teamwork Motorsport Volkswagen Golfs in fifth.

Macau’s Filipe de Souza was sixth fastest in the other Engstler Volkswagen, almost two seconds off the pace, while China’s Neric Wei Chaoyin will start seventh for his TCR Asia debut with the Son Veng Racing Team.

Terence Tse in the Roadstar Racing SEAT was the last driver to set a time, with Teamwork’s Bill O’Brien, Viper Niza’s Douglas Khoo and FRD’s Kenneth Ma all not taking part in Q2.

Ma was driving the all-new Ford Focus TCR of the FRD Racing Team, but the Hong Kong driver was 4.5 seconds away from the next fastest car in Qualifying 1, and almost ten seconds from the ultimate pace in effectively the test outing for the rebuilt car.

Race 1 takes place at 8:55 local time on Sunday, with the reversed grid Race 2 at 12:50.
