Marco Wittmann has a perfect day in Moscow

BMW Motorsport driver Marco Wittmann dominated the field at the Moscow Raceway to take his second victory of the year. The Bavarian manufacturer had the best collective result to regain the lead in all three championship tables.

Wittmann dominated the morning practice session, scored the pole position and had a lights to flag victory, only abandoning the lead during the pit stop window. The 2014 champion led a 1-2-3-4 result for BMW Motorsport, turning around the championship classifications.

After the race, Wittmann was all smiles, and dedicated the victory to his race engineer: “After a tough day yesterday, today’s race was much more to my liking again. I was able to secure pole position and then lead from start to finish. The fact that BMW also completed a top-four lock-out is simply awesome. I would like to dedicate this success to my race engineer, who is 35 years old today. I don’t think I could give him a much better birthday present than a DTM victory.”

Wittmann now lead the drivers’ table with 130 points, 12 ahead of his closest rival, Mercedes’ Robert Wickens.

Team RBM’s Tom Blomqvist had a strong showing to achieve his third podium of the year, and is now the next best man for BMW in the championship in sixth place. The young Briton was delighted with the result: “This was a fantastic result, not just for me, but above all for the team. I am delighted with my third podium finish of the season.”

Bruno Spengler was third for Team MTEK, achieving his first podium of the year. The Canadian was relieved to take home a good result for his team: “It is nice to be back on the podium. We have had a tough time as a team. We had not been good enough, particularly in qualifying. We improved that today. I am particularly pleased for my mechanics that we were finally rewarded for all our hard work with a third place.”

BMW Team RMG regained the lead in the Teams’ table, and BMW Motorsport reaped a total of 70 points, returning to the top spot in the Manufacturers’ championship with 436 points.

Jens Marquardt, BMW Motorsport Director, was pleased with a result which he daren’t anticipate yesterday: “That is an incredible result for us today, particularly given the way the race turned out for us yesterday. Marco really produced a top performance and made his intentions very clear in qualifying. His race was equally impressive. We are obviously very happy to have regained the lead in all three championships. This result is something to celebrate.”
