Edoardo Mortara tops the final practice session at the Hungaroring

Audi’s Edoardo Mortara continued his commanding display this weekend at the Hungaroring after he was the fastest driver in the third and final free practice session, with Audi occupying eight of the the top nine positions.

Mortara set his fastest lap of 1:35.432 on his final run, improving on fellow Audi driver Jamie Green’s time by 0.156 seconds. Timo Scheider was third, followed by Mattias Ekström, Adrien Tambay and Miguel Molina.

BMW’s António Félix Da Costa was the only man able to break Audi’s dominance, putting his Schitzer BMW M4 in seventh position, albeit 0.763 seconds off the pace. Mike Rockenfeller and Nico Müller were the bottom two Audis.

Maximilian Götz was the fastest Mercedes AMG driver in tenth place, 0.895 seconds behind Mortara.

Championship leader Marco Wittmann was 12th in his M4 DTM, 0.940 seconds off the pace, in another day where the Team RMG driver expects to continue with a damage limitation strategy in respect of his title battle, while Mercedes’ top contender Robert Wickens was 14th, 1.097 seconds off the pace.

Next is qualifying for Race 2, which is scheduled for 12:50 CET.
