Jamie Green reflects on “good year” after fighting till the end

Audi driver Jamie Green finished the 2016 DTM season third in the standings, after arriving at the Hockenheim finale with an outside shot at the title in a strong season for the Brit.

The Team Rosberg driver’s only victory this year was at Zandvoort, but his title hopes suffered setbacka in Moscow and at the Nürburgring.

“Overall, it has been a good year” Green told TouringCarTimes. “There was a lot of competition and that was good also for DTM, with three championship contenders at the season finale.”

Green had a victory and five podium finishes, but dropped back in the championship fight after the summer.

“We had a few bad races that cost us greatly, especially in Moscow, Nürburgring and Budapest. Still, I have a good feeling because our car was the strongest in the field, so I’m quite happy and positive for the future.”

This season both Green and Edoardo Mortara remained in contention for the title for Audi Sport until the final round.

On whether having two drivers fighting for the championship was a help or a hindrance to Audi’s chances, the Briton said: “That would be a question for (Audi Sport boss) Dieter Gass but, in general, I like having strong team-mates. As a racing driver, you want to be pushed to the limit, and having a good contention within your team raises your game. So I don’t think is a negative thing.”
