Robert Wickens and Mercedes dominate day three at Hockenheim

Mercedes AMG driver Robert Wickens was fastest on the third day of the final collective DTM pre-season test at Hockenheim.

The drivers took advantage of the cool temperatures to work on fine-tuning set-up details and quick runs, with the morning session faster than the afternoon’s, when the teams switched to focussing on race runs and simulations.

The Canadian driver set a best lap time of 1:30.517 at the wheel of his C63 DTM, with Jamie Green in second place for Audi, 0.348 seconds off the pace. His team-mate Nico Müller was again competitive, just 15 thousandths of a second after the Briton.

Lucas Auer was fourth for Mercedes, with series returnee Maro Engel in fifth, 0.563 seconds behind Wickens.

Augusto Farfus was the fastest driver for BMW Motorsport, 0.937 seconds off the pace, followed by Audi’s Loïc Duval and fellow BMW driver Bruno Spengler. Reigning champion Marco Wittmann didn’t run in the morning, but set the fourth fastest time in the afternoon, finishing the day as ninth fastest.

Tomorrow will be the final day of the collective pre-season test, together with the official 2017 DTM presentation.
