Jamie Green and Audi dominate third and final practice at Lausitzring

Jamie Green led a top-four result for Audi Sport in the final practice session held at the Lausitzring this morning.

The session took place on a dry track and under sunny and warm conditions and was largely trouble free. The only incident took place ten minutes into the session, when Audi driver Mike Rockenfeller experienced technical issues, limping back slowly back to the pits.

Half way through the session Audi’s René Rast set a time of 1:16.913, which would be the benchmark for the rest of the drivers. Team-mate Jamie Green managed to beat the German driver, with a time of 1:16.745. Rast improved, but it wasn’t enough to recover the top spot.

Mattias Ekström also improved in the closing stages of the session to be third, with Nico Müller completing the top four for Audi, 0.222 seconds off the pace.

Robert Wickens was fifth and fastest for Mercedes AMG, followed by team-mates Lucas Auer and Gary Paffett. Tom Blomqvist and Timo Glock were next for BMW Motorsport, with the German driver 0.616 seconds off the pace, completing their fastest laps in the last five minutes of the session as the Bavarian manufacturer was saving tyres for the qualifying session.

Mike Rockenfeller completed the top ten, despite spending most of the session back in the garage to repair the problems with his RS 5 DTM.

Team Rosberg driver Jamie Green said: “I haven’t looked at the times yet, but we are basically focussing on our own program so we can understand the car a bit more and make setup changes, we will do our own work and see where that brings us in qualy.”

Qualifying for Race 2 is scheduled for 11:30.
