Ekström takes pole position
Champion Mattias Ekström took poleposition today at Hockenheim. He blitzed the superpole session taking pole with a time that was faster than his time during the pre qualifying.
Gary Paffett was the closest contender 0.032 seconds behind. Ekström and Paffet were the class of the field today as Jamie Green in third position was over 0.5 seconds behind the two.
Marcel Fässler showed that there still is potential in the Opel Vectra by taking fourth position ahead of Jean Alesi who was fifth. Bernd Schneider was quickest during the qualifying session but was unable to maintain that position during this super pole. The 10 fastest drivers during the longer qualifying session gets to drive the superpole which decides the top 10 positions of the starting grid.
Laurent Aiello was fastest outside the super pole drivers in eleventh place. New comer Mika Häkkinen took 15:th time right behind Allan McNish. Stay tuned for the race tomorrow, the action will for sure be thick!
