Lauzitz replaces Avignon

The DTM-race on the streets of the French city Avignon will not take place this year. Due to problems with obtaining a license to hold an motorsport-event in a city, the ITR was forced to cancel the race.

There will be a replacing race on the EuroSpeedway Lausitz, which had already been host of a DTM-round this year.

After the problems at Avignon arose, the organisers tried to move the venue to the circuit of Ledenon, near Avignon. However, this circuit was to small to run DTM cars on. An attempt to move the race to the Sachsenring failed because of lack of time.

In order to be able to give the East-Germans another race now the race will be held at the Lausitzring, on the same date as the Avignon-race was planned (September 18th). “The cancellation of the Avignon race is a pity, but due to the situation, it couldn’t be avoided,” said ITR e.V. Chairman Hans Werner Aufrecht. “The EuroSpeedway represents an appropriate alternative. The great crowd and the smooth organisation have been vital for our decision to return to the EuroSpeedway, for round nine.”
